When I was little, my favorite Bible stories were the parables (besides Esther...I mean come on! She goes from simple girl to queen...in a matter of months!) I loved hearing my mom read about the woman who searched for her one lost coin, the servants who buried their treasure, the seeds that fell on fertile soil...and so on. I loved that Jesus brought spiritual truths down to a level that was relate-able and understandable for those who listened.
My mom and I were talking about movies the other day, and she mentioned that she believes many of the movies being produced are like the parables of our generation. I like that perspective! There are plenty of movies out there with good morals, but may have some questionable content. I think those movies are the perfect opportunities for parents to teach their young about right and wrong. Obviously, they should be sensitive to the age/maturity of their children, but why not take the opportunity to teach through media! Discuss what world view is being taught, and why you agree/disagree with it. It's up to the parent and their common sense to really determine what movies are best suited for this, but I think it's worth giving a go!
Now to think of some parable names for movies like "High School Musical" and "Harry Potter..."
