As you all know, Beth and I have a cat named Sparkles. She is normally really cute and fun, always springing around, causing some sort of ruckus. She is a good companion, when i'm home alone, I don't feel so "alone"--okay, i'm not a crazy cat lady, I promise this is going somewhere!
Sparkles has the habit of climbing up on our kitchen counter and playing in the sink, for a cat, she is surely unafraid of water! Beth and I are constantly picking her up and tossing her off the counter. She is relentless, however and climbs right back up. It's just part of being in the kitchen with Sparkles, you take her off the counter atleast five times.
Tonight I was cooking some dinner, and sure enough, Sparkles was climbing on the counter, curiously watching me saute perogies and grill chicken, as if she was my assistant. I took her off the counter for the seventh time, and started thinking that must be how God feels with me. Lately i've been VERY aware of my shortcomings, especially the ones that I repeat, repeatedly. Like Sparkles with the counter, God is constantly having to push, prod and pick me up out of bad decisions and circumstances that I get myself into. He must get so frustrated sometimes (as I do with Sparkles, I sometimes want to throw her across the room!) yet He patiently and gently corrects me and sets me back on the path I should be on.
I really don't know how God does it. But when I pulled Sparkles off the counter for the last time before sitting down to eat, I realized how He must feel to some degree. As annoyed and upset I get with Sparkles, as soon as I pick her up, I get a glance at her adorable little kitten face, and I can't stay mad at her. That's how God is with me, His unconditional love is truly epic--and so undeserved. Yet he is always there to pick me up, dust me off, and give me another chance.
So that's my lesson from Sparkles the kitten/princess. Who would have thought??
