"Jaime, you should lower your standards..."
I kid you not, the advice above was given to me recently.
WHAT!?
I've never been told that before-i've been told to set my sights higher, maintain the standards I have, but never to lower them.
After this happened, I was talking to my mom about it, and she gave me some fabulous insight. She said i'll never regret having high standards, i'll only regret if I have standards and lower them. That's a decision i'll always have to live with. Knowing that I wanted something better, and settling for something less--often times having to live with it forever.
I sometimes look around at the world and think about settling. How many people settle into a job, education or lifestyle that is less than what they wanted. 9 1/2 times out of ten-these people are not satisfied, and their misery affects the people they meet and work with. What an unpleasant cycle!
I'm not saying that we shouldn't find contentment and happiness with what we have or the situations we're put in, what i'm saying is having high hopes and expectations gives God a chance to show off in our lives. He wants the ULTIMATE best for us....
SOOO-I won't be lowering my standards anytime soon.
The gate is wide
The road is paved in moderation
The crowd is kind and quick to pull you in
Welcome to the middle ground
It's safe and sound and
Until now it's where I've been
Cause it's been fear
That ties me down to everything
But it's been love,
Your love That cuts the strings
So long, status quo
I think I've just let go
You make me wanna be Brave.
