This weekend, I had lots of plans, none of which came into fruition. I was supposed to attend a black-tie gala (according to Beth!) on Friday evening, but didn't go, due to the weather. Saturday, I was supposed to have 3 practices at my church-choir, praise team and dance team- choir happened, the other two didn't.
So, I decided to go get my eyebrows waxed and get a facial at my hometown salon, Tammy and Company. Located in the heart of downtown McDonald, Tammy and Co is the hot spot of all the town news, comings and goings- the women their share heart aches, recipes and photos of their kids and grand kids.
There is something about going to a salon, as a woman, that is comforting. You develop relationships within those every-so-often visits that last one-to-two hours. Everyone is like family, and when the bell above the door jingles, signifying a new customer, everyone looks to see who it is. That person is greeted with warmth and excitement, and they immediately share the latest news in their busy life. Maybe it's just McDonald, being the little town it is, but that's the experience you have when you enter the doors of Tammy and Co.
My facialist/waxer extraordinare is named Jen. Since I was 16, she has done fabulous work on my eyebrows (i'm sorry to the men/people who don't care to know about these details, that may be TMI!). Whenever I go in to get "work done" on my eyebrows, I always look forward to the conversation i'll have with her, especially. She is such a sweet lady, and has the memory of an elephant (another cliche....). Someone once said to me that a hairdresser is a cheaper version of a psychiatrist--people trust hairdressers with information that they may not even trust their closest friends with-apparently because of the physical contact element of the visits.
Jen and I always have such a wonderful time catching up--I know her two sons by name, her husbands profession, where she vacationed last and what her most recent favorite movie is. She knows all about my family members, make-ups/break-ups, and what my career goals are. It didn't hit me until yesterday when I left, how much I enjoy my relationship with her. I had the opportunity yesterday to share part of my life testimony with Jen--and it was so cool! We ended up chatting for two hours in the facial room about life, God, relationships, forgiveness and love. I'm so glad my plans didn't work out on Saturday, that I randomly stopped in to see her, and that God gave me the opportunity to share some of Him with Jen from Tammy and Co.
