Jaime's Book Club

Like Oprah, I too am the president of a book club. I am also the VP, secretary, treasurer, and the fan club coordinator. I am also most likely the only member.

However, since I love to read, and have been reading since I was a small child, I think having my own book club is only right and appropriate. From time to time, my blog will be a book review--and maybe Oprah will call me to start consulting with her. I'd like to wait until I am done reading normally before I reccommend something, but I am reading a book right now that is LIFE CHANGING.

It's called The Bait of Satan by John Bevere. Before you become intimidated by the title, hear me out. How many times a day are you offended by someone or something that someone says? If you are honest, you will most likely be able to think of atleast one instance a day. I am super honest with myself, so I know for me it's way more than once. This book deals with offense, and how to aviod being so offended all the time. We are most often offended by those closest to us, making an offense seem even greater. Our parents, friends and co-workers are all people we care about to some degree, so we are more open to them, thus the opportunity to be offended by them is greater than the opportunity of a random stranger.

There is a verse in the New Testament that states "For every temptation, God provides a way of escape."-one of my favorites, as I feel that reminds me that God has equipped me to handle whatever is thrown my way. However, this book has revealed something new to me about that verse. The same original Greek word for temptation is also the root word meaning offense. So, for every offense, God has also provided a way of escape. Meaning, that I have a way from God to NEVER be offended again. What a liberating epiphany!

That is one of my favorite things i've learned so far from reading this book, and i'm only on chapter 4! I am excited to learn even more. So this is my official commencement of the Jaime Book Club. Watch out Oprah!

That book sounds like it might be similar to The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Have you ever read it? It's also about how Satan can use little everyday events to tempt us away from Christ.
