Yesterday The Lighthouse hosted an information luncheon for all of our partnering agencies, friends, pastors and other representatives in the Butler/Northern Allegheny community. It ended up being a really fun event that ran very smoothly (yay!).
Ever since I took this job in August, my parents --my mom especially! has been asking me tons of questions about The Lighthouse. Those of you who are familiar with it know that it is sometimes hard to articulate what we do here--there is always SO MUCH going on! So when we decided to have this luncheon, I added my mom to the E-vite list thinking it would be the perfect opportunity to have her come and see what we are all about!
I was so nervous before everyone arrived yesterday because the perfectionist in me wanted everything to be, well, perfect. I wanted my mom to proud of what i'm doing with my life, and more importantly, I wanted The Lighthouse to be presented in the best way possible to all the people that attended.
Here is an excerp from an email my mom sent me this morning before she went to school:
Hi Jaime~I was so impressed with your role and the vision of Lighthouse. It was like seeing a glimpse of the church in action, and just imagine that this is what God really does desire for the church to be doing all over the world. The hands and feet of Christ. Vern is great, so compassionate and real, and all the people are so genuine and committed. It's way cool. You really need to invite your church leaders there to see the ministry you are involved with.I saw what God is doing through you and know He has something he is preparing you for and that this training is very key in your future in a kingdom capacity. You are an awesome girl..You continue to wow your brothers and sisters and me, and I know you are impacting them with a vision for their own lives- a hope and a future.
Needless to say, I almost cried when I read what she had to say, not because I think i'm anything great, but because the Lighthouse is truly accomplishing so much good, and I am so honored to be apart of it! In a conversation I had recently, someone was stating their dissapointment in the universal church, because it often seems like a "bless me" club where people attend for their own edification. Vern, my beloved boss, recently called The Lighthouse the "church for the unchurched." So true, so wonderful and so appropriate.
I am blessed to be working with the people I work with at The Lighthouse, and there is no place i'd rather be in my life right now.
