So Cliche

Cliche sayings...some of my favorites are:

"It takes two to tango"
"As beautiful as the day is long"
"Call a spade a spade".....

There is an entire website dedicated to cliches and their orgins! It's pretty great, you can look at orgins of cliches, and what they really mean....

This morning I was chatting with Jim, our LH consultant, and we were talking about grant writing. Most people think if you know how to write a grant, then the checks will come rolling into your organization--not so much. Grant writing is a great skill to have, but at the end of the day, it's not about how well you write, it's about who you know and being at the right place at the right time. So cliche, right??

I strongly believe however, that that is true not just in grant writing, but in life. Getting a job, getting an interview, a connection, tickets to a game, reservations into the "it" restaurant, getting a good deal on a car.....it all comes down to who you know, and the right timing. Which sometimes doesn't seem fair! I know lots of people who work hard-try even harder and still can't seem to catch a break. My advice to them, network, network, network.

Jim once said to me "People don't give to organizations, they give to people." So--the key is, get out there and meet people! It could be life-changing for you.... (especially if you are in the right place at the right time).

You are so right Jaime: it's about who you know and the right timing....you have to know JESUS cause it's in HIS TIME!
