Why I like the Psalms...

I like Psalms, one of my top 10 books of the bible. What I love about this book is that David mostly starts out complaining, whining or trevailing to God. Now that is scripture I can relate to.

The Psalms are realistic- David is escaping an enemy, crying out for more of God or for God to move on his behalf. But here's the twist--they Psalms always turn around. David always ends up focusing on what is right with God. Today, a situation came up in my life that I am less than thrilled with. It's a situation that, quite frankly, i'm sick of dealing with. All I feel like doing is complaining--why hasn't God "taken this away" from me. Honestly now, I know that everything happens for a reason, that nothing is lost, and that God is always teaching me things.....but STILL. Like David, I can start out a blog overwhelmed. I love that David was REAL when he wrote, that his perspective is one that I can relate to. But I also love that he quickly turns things around to be about God- and His charactertistics.

One day I went through my bible and I underlined everytime God's "unfailing love" is mentioned. I don't remember the number, but I know it was ALOT. Unfailing love-what does that mean?I don't know that i've ever experienced unfailing love--truly unfailing. We, as humans, can put conditions on love that we don't even realize. So these mentions of unfailing love serve as repetitive reminders of one of many characteristics that God has and shows to me. The Psalms put things into plain English, and a perspective that I can really relate to.

And that's why I love Psalms.
